Air India on a mission to flew back Indian students from crisis-hit Ukraine

On Air India’s Boeing 787 flight, some 240 Indians arrived in India from Ukraine. On Tuesday, flight AI 1946 departed Boryspil International Airport in Kyiv at around 6 p.m. (IST) and arrived at Indira Gandhi International Airport at around 11.40 p.m.

Many of these Indians are medical students studying in Ukraine. According to the students, the atmosphere on the ground is tranquil, but there is a lot of anxiety. Students have heeded the Embassy’s advice, which instructed them to leave the country as soon as possible.

Following the outbreak of Covid-19, Air India, which was just passed over to the Tata Group, took part in India’s evacuation mission. As tensions between Russia and Ukraine grew, planes became scarce, making it harder for students to follow the Embassy’s advice to leave the country. Air India announced on February 19 that three flights would be operated between India and Ukraine on February 22, 24, and 26. The first of these planes has already returned 240 Indians.
