Constables accused of attacking woman officer surrender
Bareilly (UP): Two constables accused of dragging on road a woman police officer early this month after she objected to alleged extortion by them during checking of vehicles today surrendered in a court here. Constables Ravindra Yadav and Manoj Singh were sent to jail after they surrendered before district judge Kalimullaha Khan.
Superintendent of Police (Traffic)
suffered a fracture in her hand and injuries on her head in the September two incident. Of the four accused, one Dharmendra was arrested earlier. Another constable Ravindra Sonkar is still absconding.
Saxena had got information that some constables were extorting money from truck drivers after which she reached the spot with her driver and gunner and questioned the three constables present there. However, they denied extorting money following which the officer asked her staff to check their pockets.
Sensing trouble, the three constables attacked Saxena and later attempted to flee. While they were fleeing, Saxena caught hold of the collar of one the constables, but instead of stopping the vehicle, the policemen sped away dragging the officer.
