Nashik:Additional District Collector burnt alive by petrol mafia

Nashik: Malegaon Additional District Collector Yashwant Sonawane has been burnt alive during raids to curb petrol black marketeers near Manmad in Nashik district. The incident is believed to have occured this afternoon.

His body is still lying at the crime spot. Assailants are absconding after the crime.

Sonawane was conducting a spot raid with his personal assistant. The incident is believed to have occured when Sonawane spotted something amis and stopped to find out. He was then burnt alive. Top officials of tthe district had reached the spot.

News comes in that Additional District Collector Sonawane was allegedly beaten up and then burnt alive. He was not accompanied by a police posse since he was not on an officialraid. He was on his way to another district on an official tour when he noticed something suspicious, (details not in) got off his car and was then beaten up andset on fire.

“Preliminary reports say Sonawane had gone there to conduct a raid on petrol and diesel mafia. There some people, believed to be associated with the mafia, who set him on fire causing his death,” Additional Director General (Law & Order) K P Rahuvanshi told.

Another report said Sonawane had stopped at a roadside hotel on way to a certain place to oversee security arrangements for an event when he found people adulterating fuel.

Sonawane objected to it, leading to a scuffle during which he was set ablaze resulting in his death.
