RTI activist attacked in Pune
Pune: Noted RTI activist Arun Mane was today assaulted by unknown persons at Talegaon Dabhade near here, police said. Mane who was attacked with sticks, has been admitted to a hospital and was stated to be out of danger.
“He suffered minor injuries and his condition is not serious,” P Degaonkar, Superintendent, Rural police told PTI.
An associate of late RTI activist Satish Shetty who was murdered last year in Pune district, Mane has been championing various causes under RTI movement. He had been given police protection following threats to his life, but had refused escort recently when he went to Alibaug for a few days before coming back to Talegaon Dabhade where he resides, police said.
Arun Mane was attacked by unknown miscreants and is now in hospital ICU at a local hospital. Mane was critically injured but now out of danger.
Mane was working on the same Talegaon land scams which Shetty had been pursuing. In January 2010 Satish Shetty was murdered for blowing the whistle on land scams around Lonavla, Pimpri and Chinchwad area of Talegaon and Dabhade. Police will investigate the case once Arun Mane is able to give a statement.
