Gambhir, Yuvraj out as team announced for West Indies tour
New Delhi: Opener Gautam Gambhir has been ruled out of the upcoming ODI series against West Indies due to shoulder injury while India’s World Cup hero Yuvraj Singh is suffering from an upper respiratory infection and has been kept out of the squad.
Earlier, Gambhir was appointed as the captain for the West Indies tour starting next month but he won’t be available for the team anymore because of the shoulder injury which happened to him during the World Cup final.
However, Gambhir was suggested to rest for 4-6 weeks but he preferred to play for Kolkata Knight Riders as he was the costliest player in the fourth season of Indian Premier League.
Gambhir’s shoulder injury became worse when he kept playing for KKR instead of taking rest. According to the sources, India’s most consistent opener knew about his injury but preferred to play for IPL over Team India.
Seniors including skipper M S Dhoni, Sachin Tendulkar and fast bowler Zaheer Khan won’t be playing in ODIs. Team India will play 1 T20, 5 ODIs and 3 Test matches during West Indies tour. Suresh Raina will lead the Indian team in ODIs.
