November 14, 2024: Dale Steyn has boldly predicted that Marco Jansen will be one of the top earners in the upcoming IPL 2025 mega auction, which is set to take place on November 24 and 25 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Steyn, a former South African fast bowler himself, made his prediction after witnessing Jansen’s impressive performances, particularly in the recent T20I series against India.
Jansen, who has listed himself in the all-rounders category for the auction, has set his base price at INR 1.25 Crore. However, his recent performances—particularly in the third T20I against India—have caught the eye of many cricketing experts. Jansen delivered a disciplined spell with the ball, taking 1/28 in his four overs, and then stunned everyone with the bat by scoring a blistering 54 off just 17 balls. His knock included four fours and five sixes, and he achieved South Africa’s second-fastest T20I half-century in just 16 balls.
Steyn, impressed by Jansen’s all-round abilities, took to social media (X) to say, “Marco Jansen, a 10 crore player? I’d say so.” Steyn’s confidence stems from Jansen’s potential to impact both with the ball and the bat, making him a valuable asset for IPL franchises looking for balance in their squads.
Jansen has had a mixed but promising IPL career so far, having played for Mumbai Indians (MI) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). Over 21 matches, he has taken 20 wickets, but his IPL 2024 season was relatively quiet, where he played just three matches for SRH and took one wicket. Given his recent form and all-round skills, Jansen is expected to attract significant interest in the auction.
The IPL 2025 auction is shaping up to be a star-studded event, with 1,574 players registered, including 409 overseas players. South Africa leads the foreign contingent, with 91 players entering the fray, including notable names like Quinton de Kock, Faf du Plessis, David Miller, and Lungi Ngidi, among others.
With his impressive all-round abilities, Marco Jansen is likely to be one of the standout players in this high-profile auction.
