According to authorities, two persons were killed and five others were injured in an explosion in Manipur’s Churachandpur district on Saturday evening.
The blast occurred at 7:30 p.m. in a house in Gangpimual village on the STC-BSF Road, according to the district police. Seven individuals were seriously injured in the blast, including children. They were rushed to the district hospital, where two of them succumbed to their injuries.
The incident occurred in the backyard of a home. At the scene, police discovered fragments of an exploded shell as well as splinters.
The cause of the explosion is thought to be a shell picked up by some people at the Border Security Force firing range nearby, according to police officials.
The deceased have been identified as Mangminlal (6) and Langinsang (22). The injured are Liansualal (18), Manladia (28), Siamboi (19), Muanbiakmuan (15) and Thangbiaklun (34).
Manipur goes to the polls in two phases on February 28 and March 5.
