3rd ODI: In the third One-Day International at McLean Park in Napier on Saturday, Bangladesh defeated New Zealand by nine wickets thanks to a three-wicket haul from Tanzim Hasan Sakib. Despite losing the match, the Kiwis defeated Bangladesh 2-1 in the series. In Napier, Bangladesh’s choice to bowl first after winning the toss proved advantageous. With an incredible bowling display, the Bengal Tigers ended New Zealand’s inning in the thirty-second over.
The only two Kiwi batsmen who stood out for the home team were opener Will Young (26 runs from 43 balls) and captain Tom Latham (21 runs from 34 balls). With the efforts of Young and Latham, the Kiwis won 98/10. Against Bangladesh, Rachin Ravindra (8 runs from 12 balls), who just had an incredible journey for the Kiwis during the ODI World Cup 2023, was unable to leave an impression. From the first over of the match, the visitors controlled the game. In Napier, three bowlers from Bangladesh, Soumya Sarkar, Tanzim, and Shariful Islam, each claimed three wickets. On Saturday, Mustafizur also claimed one wicket.
The star player of the previous match, Soumya Sarkar (4 runs from 16 balls), retired injured during the 99-run chase. But captain Najmul Hossain Shanto (51 runs from 42 balls) did not let his absence be felt, and by the beginning of the 16th over, the game was over. During the run chase, Anamul Haque (37 runs from 33 balls) was also very important.
Tanzim was declared the “Player of the Match” after conceding just 14 runs during his seven-over stint. ‘Player of the Series’ went to Will Young, who scored the most runs (220 from 3 innings) in the series.
