January 15, 2025: David Schwimmer, best known for his role as Ross Geller on Friends, recently shared a humorous memory from his pre-Hollywood days during a guest appearance on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert. The actor recalled one of his "unique" jobs before becoming famous — serving divorce papers.
Schwimmer revealed that after his freshman year in college, he was looking for work and his mother, who was a divorce lawyer, offered him a job as a process server. This meant he would deliver legal documents, such as divorce papers, to people. Schwimmer shared a particularly memorable experience when he had to serve papers to singer Rod Stewart.
"One summer after my freshman year in college, I was just looking for work, and my mom said, 'Well, you can be a process server for me. My mom was a divorce lawyer, and I was the guy who would pop out of the bushes and serve you divorce papers,'" Schwimmer explained.
He continued, "Once, oh man, thank goodness I've never run into him since, but I served Rod Stewart. I don't even know if he knows. I don't think he knows."
Stephen Colbert humorously responded to Schwimmer's story, joking, "He knows now. Change your locks, man. He's vengeful." He added, "You could theoretically run into Rod Stewart sometime and now he knows to punch you."
While Schwimmer didn't reveal the name of the woman Stewart was divorcing at the time, the singer's high-profile divorce from model Rachel Hunter took place after they split in 1999, with the divorce finalized in 2006. Stewart has been married to model Penny Lancaster since 2007.
Schwimmer's lighthearted tale about serving divorce papers to the iconic singer provided a glimpse into his life before Friends and added a fun anecdote to his career journey.
