Rosshan Andrrews’ Bollywood debut, Deva, shows minimal growth on Day 2 despite praise for Shahid Kapoor’s performance.
February 2, 2025: Deva, directed by acclaimed Malayalam filmmaker Rosshan Andrrews, marks his Hindi debut and stars Shahid Kapoor alongside Pooja Hegde. Released on January 31, the film has garnered mixed reviews but has been praised for Shahid Kapoor’s intense performance.

According to Sacnilk, Deva collected ₹5.5 crore on its opening day and ₹5.87 crore on its first Saturday, bringing its total domestic collection to ₹11.37 crore in two days. The film recorded 5.84% occupancy during morning shows on Saturday, which improved slightly to 14.20% by the evening.

Zee Studios, the producer of Deva, announced that the film grossed ₹10.31 crore on its opening day globally, with ₹6.82 crore gross from India and ₹3.49 crore gross overseas.
Plot and Background
The action drama follows ACP Dev Ambre, portrayed by Shahid Kapoor. Dev is a passionate but hot-headed cop investigating the murder of his best friend. During the investigation, he suffers memory loss, leading to twists in his quest for justice. Pooja Hegde plays Dev’s journalist girlfriend, Divya Sathaye. The film is an adaptation of Rosshan Andrrews’ 2013 Malayalam hit Mumbai Police, though significant changes have been made to the climax to suit the Hindi audience.

Mixed Reviews but Stellar Performances
Critics have given Deva mixed reviews, citing an inconsistent narrative but applauding Shahid Kapoor’s dedicated portrayal of the complex character. Ahead of the release, Shahid shared his excitement in a heartfelt social media post:
“One year of blood, sweat, and tears. 2024 was all DEVA! My heart, my soul, my work, my dedication—all poured into this film. This is for my audience, my love for acting, and my creative journey.”
Future Outlook
With tough competition from Sky Force, Deva’s performance at the box office in its first weekend remains uncertain. However, fans are hopeful that word of mouth and Shahid Kapoor’s star power might help the film recover in the coming days.
