Tennis Premier League season 5 ends after host of thrilling matches: Day-2

A number of thrilling matches were played out on the second day of the Tennis Premier League (TPL) season 5. Day 2 of the Tennis Premier League got underway with a much awaited matchup between the Pune Jaguars and Bengaluru SG Mavericks. In the Women’s Singles Category, Arina Rodionova of the Bengaluru SG Mavericks faced Diana Marcinkevica of the Pune Jaguars to open the match. The Bengaluru SG Mavericks prevailed in the game 15–5. The Men’s Single Category matchup between Lukas Rosol of the Pune Jaguars and Ramkumar Ramanathan of the Bengaluru SG Mavericks ensued next. The Pune Jaguars prevailed 7–13 in the match.

In the Mixed Doubles Category, the Bengaluru SG Mavericks’ Arina Rodionova and Vishnu Vardhan faced off against the Pune Jaguars’ Diana Marcinkevica and Rithvik Bollipalli. The Bengaluru SG Mavericks prevailed 11-9. The men’s doubles match ended with an 11-9 victory for Ramkumar Ramanathan and Vishnu Vardhan of the Bengaluru SG Mavericks over Rithvik Bollipalli and Lukas Rosol of the Pune Jaguar. The final score of the game between Bengaluru SG Mavericks and Pune Jaguars was 44-36 in their favour. Player of the match went to Bengaluru SG Mavericks’ Arina Rodionova.


The second game of the day was a hotly contested contest between Delhi Binny’s Brigade and Punjab Patriots. Malliaka Arora, the ambassador for the Delhi team, was supporting her side from the dugout. Punjab Patriots’ Conny Perrin faced Delhi Binny’s Brigade’s Sahaja Yamalapalli. The Swiss player won the match 11–9, with Conny Perrin defeating the youthful Sahaja. Next up was the Men’s Singles division, where Dennis Novak of Delhi Binny’s Brigade defeated Digvijay Pratap Singh of the Punjab Patriots, 9-11 in Novak’s favour.

In the Mixed Doubles division, Punjab Patriots’ Conny Perrin and Arjun Khade faced off against Delhi Binny’s Brigade’s Sahaja Yamalapalli and Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan. The match ended in an exciting 11-9 victory for Punjab. Men’s Doubles Doubles: Digvijay Pratap Singh and Arjun Khade of the Punjab Patriots defeated Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan and Dennis Novak of Delhi Binny’s Brigade with a score of 12-8 in the match’s final game. At 43–37, Punjab Patriots emerged victorious in the match. Player of the match went to Punjab Patriots’ Arjun Khade.


The third fixture was between Hyderabad Strikers and Gujarat Panthers. The fixture was kicked off by Ellen Perez of Hyderabad Strikers taking on Karman Kaur Thandi of the Gujarat Panthers. The game ended 13-7 in favour of Ellen Perez. The Men’s Singles category saw Niki Poonacha of Hyderabad Strikers taking on Sumit Nagal of the Gujarat Panthers, which ended 12-8 in favour of Hyderabad. The game was followed by the Mixed Doubles, where Ellen Perez and Saketh Myneni of the Hyderabad Strikers went up against Karman Kaur Thandi and Mukund Sashikumar of the Gujarat Panthers. Hyderabad Strikers emerged victorious after the game ended 11-9.

Gujarat Panthers and Hyderabad Strikers squared off in the third game. Karman Kaur Thandi of the Gujarat Panthers and Ellen Perez of the Hyderabad Strikers squared off to start the match. Ellen Perez won 13–7 in the end of the match. In the Men’s Singles division, Hyderabad Strikers’ Niki Poonacha faced Gujarat Panthers’ Sumit Nagal; the match finished 12-8 in Hyderabad’s favour. The match was followed by a Mixed Doubles match between the Gujarat Panthers’ Mukund Sashikumar and Karman Kaur Thandi and the Hyderabad Strikers’ Ellen Perez and Saketh Myneni. The game ended with Hyderabad Strikers winning 11-9.

The Men’s Singles Category match ensued after the game, with Ernest Gulbis of the Mumbai Leon Army defeating Sriram Balaji of the Bengal Wizards in a tie that ended in a 12-12 score. The next division was the Mixed Doubles, where Sowjanya Bavisetti and Vijay Sundar Prashanth of the Mumbai Leon Army squared off against Maria Timofeeva and Anirudh Chandrasekar of the Bengal Wizards. After the game ended 6-14, Mumbai Leon Army emerged victorious in the Mixed Doubles category. The Men’s Doubles event concluded the day with a 13-7 victory for Bengal Wizards’ Sriram Balaji and Anirudh Chandrasekar over Mumbai Leon Army’s Ernest Gulbis and Vijay Sundar Prashanth.

The second day of the Tennis Premier League’s fifth season concluded with Mumbai Leon Army defeating Bengal Wizards 36-44. The Mumbai Leon Army’s Ernest Gulbis was named the player of the match.

On Day 2, there were some spectacular fights on the court at Pune’s Balewadi Stadium. The league table as a whole also saw some adjustments. By the end of Day 2, Punjab Patriots had accumulated 84 points, which put them at the top of the table. Bengaluru SG Mavericks, who are ranked second in the table with 83 points, are right behind them. After Day 2’s fixtures, Bengal Wizards are in third place with 82 points. With 80 points apiece, Gujarat Panthers and Hyderabad Strikers are right behind them in the standings, sitting fourth and fifth, respectively. With 79 points, Delhi Binny’s Brigade is ranked sixth in the table. With 78 points at the end of Day 2, Mumbai Leon Army is ranked seventh, while Pune Jaguars, who play at home, are bottom of the standings with 74 points.
