Former South Africa captain Faf du Plessis, who is now captain of the Joburg Super Kings in the second season of SA20, said that he was influenced by former India captain MS Dhoni and felt lucky to have played under captain cool’s leadership early in his career. As a cricket player for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the Indian Premier League (IPL), Faf du Plessis remembered the lessons he learned about giving up.
When du Plessis spoke to the press before the second season of SA20, he said that he spent the first season at CSK watching Dhoni and head coach Stephen Fleming work and asking them questions to learn from them. Beginning in 2011, Faf du Plessis played a big role for the Chennai Super Kings. He left the team on a high note in 2021. Du Plessis did a lot more than just hit a lot of balls; he was a big part of CSK’s wins, especially in the finals. He made 86 runs off of 59 balls against Kolkata Knight Riders in the 2021 IPL final, which won him Player of the Match and helped CSK win their fourth IPL title.
“First, it was cool to be in that locker room as a young man.” Being able to learn under Stephen Fleming and MS Dhoni at the beginning of my journey was probably the most difficult thing I had to do. It was cool to watch the big guns do things and learn from them. “During my first season, I just sat there and watched and asked questions,” Plessis told the press before the second season of SA20 began.
The ex-South African captain also said that watching Dhoni taught him that he couldn’t copy someone else’s style, but that he could quickly figure out what works and what doesn’t for a captain.
“You also learn how important it is to do things that work for you when you play for great coaches.” “You can’t always copy different styles,” he said. Du Plessis praised Dhoni’s ability to keep his cool under pressure, saying that the captain needs to be more calm when the stakes are high. “They call MS Captain Cool. He is always very calm when things get tough. So it’s always important to stay calm, even when things are tight or the stakes are high. This is especially true for the bowling attack. “I feel very fortunate to have played for him,” the former South African leader said.
The IPL owns all six of the SA20 teams, making it the first T20 league outside of India to do so. The event will take place from January 10 to February 10 of this year and have six teams: the Durban Super Giants, the Joburg Super Kings, the MI Cape Town, the Paarl Royals, the Sunrisers Eastern Cape, and the Pretoria Capitals. Sunrisers Eastern Cape beat Pretoria Capitals in the final back in February of this year to win the first season.
