Akhil Sheoran, Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar secure medals at ASC 2024

Friday was the first day of the Asian Shooting Championships 2024 in Jakarta, Indonesia. Akhil Sheoran and Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar got medals for India. In the final, Akhil Sheoran won the gold medal with a score of 460.2. In the men’s 50 m rifle event, Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar came in second with a score of 459.0. Thonbhum Vongsukdee, a Thai shooter, got third place with a score of 448.8.

Both players automatically qualified for the 2024 Olympics in Paris after winning the title. India, on the other hand, already had both of its spots in the men’s 50 m rifle 3P event for next year’s Summer Games. The first Indian man to get a 50-meter rifle 3P quota was Swapnil Kusale at the 2022 World Championships in Cairo. The second Indian man to get a quota was Sheoran at the 2023 World Championships in Baku.

At the Jakarta event, which is an Asian qualifying round for rifle and pistol shooters, three Indians made it to the finals of the men’s 50 m rifle 3P event. With 588 points, Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar came in third place in the qualifiers. Sheoran came in sixth with 586 points, and Swapnil Kusale came in ninth with 584 points. Kusale had a shot in the final, but came in sixth.

They were both from India and placed in the top five in the qualifications. However, they were only competing for ranking points (RPO). India won gold in the men’s 50m rifle 3P team event with a score of 1758 points from Akhil Sheoran, Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar, and Swapnil Kusale. Japan got third place with 1735 points, and China came in second with 1744.
