Delhi Capitals (DC) sealed a convincing six-wicket win against Gujarat Titans (GT) at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Wednesday, thanks to strong performances from their bowlers and quick-fire innings from their batsmen.
Chasing a modest target of 90, DC’s opening batsman Jake Fraser-McGurk provided a swift start with 20 runs off 10 balls, including two fours and two sixes. However, his dismissal early in the innings brought Prithvi Shaw and later Abhishek Porel and Shai Hope to the crease, who quickly advanced the score. Despite losing Shaw for 7, Hope and Porel accelerated, bringing up the team’s 50 in just 4.2 overs. Their partnership added a crucial 34 runs before Porel fell for 15.
Shai Hope followed shortly after scoring 19, leaving DC at 67/4. However, Rishabh Pant and Sumit Kumar formed an unbroken partnership to carry the team home comfortably within nine overs, ending at 92/4.
The Gujarat Titans, who batted first, had a rocky start despite an initially promising opening from Shubman Gill. Quick wickets from Ishant Sharma and Mukesh Kumar collapsed their top order, leaving them struggling at 30/4. Efforts to recover were in vain as GT wrapped up their innings at 89 all out in 17.3 overs, with Mukesh Kumar picking up three wickets.
Sandeep Warrior was the standout bowler for GT, capturing two wickets but conceding 40 runs. DC’s disciplined bowling attack was too much for GT, with Ishant Sharma and Tristan Stubbs also contributing significantly to the wickets tally.
This victory propelled Delhi Capitals to the top of the standings, showcasing their balanced team strength and strategic prowess in both batting and bowling departments.
