Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) star Virat Kohli has been fined 50% of his match fee for violating the Indian Premier League (IPL) Code of Conduct during a match against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at Eden Gardens.
The incident occurred in the third over of RCB’s inning, when Kohli was dismissed by KKR’s Harshit Rana and subsequently challenged the call. Despite his appeal, the third umpire confirmed the on-field decision.
Visibly upset by the decision, Kohli protested vehemently on the field before departing, which led to the disciplinary action. The IPL released a statement explaining, “Virat Kohli, Batter, Royal Challengers Bengaluru has been fined 50 percent of his match fees for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct during Match 36 of the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024.”
According to the statement, Kohli’s actions constituted a Level 1 offence under Article 2.8 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct. Kohli acknowledged the violation and accepted the Match Referee’s sanction, making the referee’s decision final and binding as stipulated for Level 1 breaches.
