Richa Chadha and Ali Fazal’s first production, “Girls Will Be Girls,” is set to screen at the 77th Cannes Film Festival. After its successful premiere at the SXSW Film Festival and wins at Sundance, the film will be shown at Cannes on May 22nd, 23rd, and 24th.
Richa expressed her excitement, stating, “We are thrilled to see ‘Girls Will Be Girls’ reach Cannes. This project is very close to our hearts, and the recognition it has received so far has been overwhelming. Producing this film has been a labor of love, and to see it resonate with audiences globally is incredibly fulfilling.”
Ali Fazal also shared his enthusiasm, saying, “From the very beginning, we knew ‘Girls Will Be Girls’ was special. The response at Sundance was beyond our expectations, and now premiering at Cannes is a dream come true. This is just the beginning, and we are excited for what’s to come.”
The film, directed by Shuchi Talati, tells the story of Mira, a 16-year-old girl in a boarding school in a small Himalayan hill town, whose rebellious awakening is intertwined with her mother’s unfulfilled coming-of-age experiences. The Cannes Film Festival, which began on May 14, will conclude on May 25.
