Actor Jennifer Garner recently gave fans an inside look at her rigorous workout regimen for reprising her role as Elektra in the upcoming ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ movie, as reported by Variety. Garner first played the character in the 2003 film ‘Daredevil’ and the 2005 spin-off ‘Elektra’.
Garner shared on Instagram that Ryan Reynolds and director Shawn Levy first pitched the idea for Elektra’s return while they were on the set of the 2022 film ‘The Adam Project’. “I remember the moment @slevydirect and @vancityreynolds had the idea for Elektra Natchios to show up in @deadpoolmovie 3– we were on the set of ‘The Adam Project’ and they gave each other this look they have that can communicate an idea, 20 pages of dialogue, nuclear codes — there is a crazy artistic kismet between those two,” she wrote.
In her Instagram post, Garner detailed her preparation, which included extensive training with the sai weapon, aerobics, swimming, boxing, weight lifting, running, jump rope, and rowing. She humorously noted, “Other than trying to convince my kids’ preschool buddies that I was secretly a ninja, I hadn’t picked up Elektra’s sais since 2004; I was fit, but not @marvel fit.”
To achieve the necessary fitness, Garner trained daily with her best friend and original stunt double, Shauna Duggins, under the guidance of Beth Nicely. Her routine also included boxing three times a week and plenty of Peloton workouts. “We had #SuperHeroSummer over here, twirling sais in the backyard and laughing at our sore old bodies,” she added.
Garner expressed her gratitude towards Shawn Levy and Ryan Reynolds for bringing Elektra back into her life. “I didn’t know that Elektra and I needed an ending, but Shawn and Ryan did,” she shared. She also highlighted the joy of working with a star-studded cast, including Hugh Jackman, Dafne Keen, Channing Tatum, and Wesley Snipes. “Shooting the fight was so fun, being there all together–truly like a dream. I’m proud of my friends and grateful to be up there with them. Thank you doesn’t cut it, guys, but it’s a good placeholder until I figure out what does.”
Garner’s return as Elektra in ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ promises an exciting addition to the Marvel Universe, bringing back the beloved character with renewed energy and commitment.
