‘Avatar 3’ Officially Named ‘Avatar: Fire and Ash’

The wait is finally over for fans of the Avatar franchise. During the D23 Expo, director James Cameron, alongside stars Zoe Saldana and Sam Worthington, officially announced the title of the third Avatar film: ‘Avatar: Fire and Ash’, according to Variety.

While Cameron didn’t showcase any footage from the upcoming film, he did share some captivating concept art, including scenes of Neytiri (played by Saldana) dancing over flames and riding banshees. Cameron teased the audience with the promise of exploring more of Pandora than ever before, saying, “It’s an insane adventure and a feast for the eyes, but it’s also got very high emotional stakes, more than ever before.”

“Fire and Ash” was shot back-to-back with the 2022 film Avatar: The Way of Water. The upcoming film will continue the saga of Jake Sully (Worthington) and Neytiri as they encounter the “Ash People,” a clan of Na’vi who lean more towards violence and power, a stark contrast to the clans we’ve seen before.

Fans can mark their calendars as Avatar: Fire and Ash is set to hit theaters on December 19, 2025. This comes as the follow-up to the record-breaking 2009 film Avatar and its successful sequel, Avatar: The Way of Water.

The film is also a poignant project for Cameron, as it was produced in partnership with his long-time creative partner, Jon Landau, who passed away in July 2023.
