“The Day I Feel That..” : Ravichandran Ashwin Reveals His Retirement Plans

Indian star spinner Ravichandran Ashwin recently opened up about his retirement plans, stating that he will consider retiring from cricket the day he feels he can no longer improve as a player.

The 37-year-old has been a key figure in India’s Test squad since making his debut in 2011, and he continues to perform at the highest level.

Ashwin, speaking on Vimal Kumar’s YouTube channel, revealed that he has no concrete thoughts about retirement at the moment. He explained that his focus is on taking things one day at a time, especially as he grows older and the physical demands increase.

He stated, “There is nothing like that in my mind. I am only thinking about one day at a time because when you get older, you have to put in extra effort every single day. It’s not the same.”

Ashwin emphasized that his decision to retire will come when he feels he cannot make any further improvements in his game.

He said, “I haven’t decided [about retirement], but the day I feel that today I don’t want to improve, I will leave. That’s all.”

Since his Test debut in 2011 against the West Indies, Ashwin has played 100 Test matches, claiming 516 wickets at an impressive economy rate of 2.81. He has been a consistent performer for India in the longer format and is considered one of the greatest spinners in the world.

Ashwin has been named in India’s Test squad for the two-match series against Bangladesh, which begins on September 19 at Chennai’s MA Chidambaram Stadium. The second Test will take place in Kanpur from September 27. This series is part of India’s World Test Championship (WTC) cycle, where they currently lead the standings with a point percentage of 68.52%.

India’s squad for the series includes several key players, and Ashwin will play a crucial role as they aim to secure another series victory.
