Cillian Murphy is reprising his iconic role as Tommy Shelby in a new Peaky Blinders film, set a few years after the events of the series finale. Directed by Tom Harper and written by series creator Steven Knight, the film is officially in production, as confirmed by Netflix.
Murphy, who starred in all six seasons of the show, will be joined by Barry Keoghan and Rebecca Ferguson, among others.
Murphy expressed excitement about the project, calling it “one for the fans.” This news follows the conclusion of the Peaky Blinders series in 2022, which saw Murphy leading a star-studded cast that included Paul Anderson, Helen McCrory, and Tom Hardy.
Following his work on Peaky Blinders, Murphy won an Academy Award for his portrayal of J. Robert Oppenheimer in Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer.
Murphy’s next project, Small Things Like These, a film centered on the abuses in Ireland’s church-run workhouses, is set for release in November.
