October 13, 2024: Mumbai witnessed a touching tribute to the late legendary actress Sridevi as a road junction was inaugurated in her honor. Named “Sridevi Kapoor Chowk,” the chowk is located near her longtime residence, Green Acres Tower, where the iconic actress lived for many years before her untimely passing in 2018.
On October 12 at 6 PM, Sridevi’s husband, producer Boney Kapoor, along with their younger daughter Khushi Kapoor, led the inauguration ceremony. A video circulating on social media shows an emotional moment as Boney pulled back the cloth covering Sridevi’s picture, later touching it in remembrance. Khushi, standing by his side, appeared visibly emotional as they paid tribute to her. Shabana Azmi was also in attendance, offering her support to the family.
The ceremony held great sentimental value as fans gathered to honor Sridevi’s legacy. Boney and Khushi seemed overwhelmed by the outpouring of love from the crowd. However, Janhvi Kapoor, Sridevi’s elder daughter, was notably absent from the event.
Sridevi’s Enduring Legacy
Born Shree Amma Yanger Ayyapan in 1963 in Chennai, Sridevi was a cinematic icon who worked in various film industries including Telugu, Tamil, Hindi, Malayalam, and Kannada. Her career spanned over five decades, making her one of India’s most beloved and versatile actresses.
Sridevi married filmmaker Boney Kapoor in 1996 and the couple had two daughters, Janhvi and Khushi. The actress tragically passed away on February 24, 2018, in Dubai, where she accidentally drowned while attending a family wedding. Since her passing, both Janhvi and Khushi have followed in their mother’s footsteps, pursuing acting careers. Janhvi was recently seen in her first Telugu film Devara: Part 1, while Khushi is set to debut with the OTT film The Archies.
The inauguration of Sridevi Kapoor Chowk is a poignant reminder of her profound influence on Indian cinema and the lasting impact she has left on her fans and family.
