October 16, 2024: All Mariah Carey wants every other day of the year — is to always look her best. In a recent clip from her appearance on iHeart Radio’s “Las Culturistas Podcast,” the pop icon revealed her strong aversion to unflattering lighting in public spaces, especially the harsh overhead kind.

“I can’t stand the overhead lighting,” Carey confessed. “Why do they do that to us? Actually, it’s not even ‘us,’ it’s just me,” she added with her trademark diva charm.
At 55, the Grammy-winning singer has earned the right to be picky, and she didn’t hold back in explaining how bad lighting — especially in places like elevators, doorways, and gyms — tortures her. “Not that I go to the gym,” she quipped. “I’m just saying.”
For Carey, natural sunlight is a much better alternative, but only at specific times. “The sun is okay if it’s sunset,” she explained. “I’ll gladly step outside, throw on a little hat or whatever because the sunlight caresses your skin.” But she added a caution: “The sun is bad for you, so you have to be careful.”
As for overhead lighting, the pop diva had one final complaint: “It makes me sick.”
