Rajinikanth’s Vettaiyan Crosses 200 Crores Worldwide, But Faces Slowdown at Box Office

October 17, 2024: The much-anticipated Vettaiyan, starring South Indian megastar Rajinikanth, had a strong start at the Tamil box office. However, after a promising opening, the film’s performance has been slowing down. While initial expectations were high, the movie is now facing challenges in maintaining its momentum at the box office.

On its sixth day of release, Vettaiyan earned ₹4.41 crores, a significant drop from Monday’s collection of ₹6 crores. This brings the film’s total India net collection to ₹116.41 crores, with a gross of ₹137.36 crores. Additionally, the overseas market has contributed ₹70 crores, bringing Vettaiyan‘s total worldwide collection to ₹207.36 crores.

Despite these numbers, the film’s current pace suggests it may struggle to reach the coveted ₹300 crore milestone unless a surge in positive word-of-mouth gives the box office figures a much-needed boost.

Vettaiyan Enters 200 Crore Club in 2024

Despite the slowdown, Vettaiyan has become the second Tamil film in 2024 to surpass the ₹200 crore mark worldwide. The first was Thalapathy Vijay’s The Greatest Of All Time. However, with Vettaiyan‘s declining daily collections, it seems unlikely that the film will achieve the ₹300 crore milestone unless there is a significant turnaround in ticket sales.

About the Film

Vettaiyan boasts an impressive ensemble cast, featuring not only Rajinikanth but also Amitabh Bachchan, Fahadh Faasil, Durshala Vijayan, Manju Warrier, Rana Daggubati, and Ritika Singh. Directed by TJ Gnanavel, with music by Anirudh Ravichander, the film tells the gripping story of a police officer known for carrying out encounters on hardened criminals. His life takes a dramatic turn when he questions whether he may have killed an innocent person in his quest for justice.
