October 22, 2024: Ekta Kapoor and her mother Shobha Kapoor have responded to the case filed against them under the POCSO Act in connection with ALT Balaji’s web series Gandi Baat.
In an official statement shared via ALT Balaji’s Instagram account on Tuesday, the Kapoors refuted the allegations of featuring inappropriate scenes involving minors in the series. The statement emphasized that both Ekta and Shobha Kapoor are not involved in the day-to-day operations of ALT Balaji, as those are handled by separate teams.
The official clarification from ALT Digital Media Entertainment LTD stated, “The company is fully compliant with all applicable laws including the POCSO Act, and any claims suggesting the involvement of minors in the series are incorrect.” The statement also reiterated that Ekta and Shobha Kapoor are not directly involved in managing the content or other operational aspects of the platform, adding that the company has full faith in the judiciary and is cooperating with the investigation.
This response comes after the Mumbai Police interrogated the Kapoors regarding a complaint filed about Gandi Baat Season 6, which aired between February and April 2021. The episode in question, reportedly containing inappropriate scenes involving minors, is no longer available for streaming on ALT Balaji. The police have also requested more information about the actors involved and will further investigate the production team behind the series.
The Kapoors have been asked to appear for further questioning on October 24.
