October 29, 2024: Australia all-rounder Glenn Maxwell recently shared an amusing story about being blocked by Indian star Virat Kohli after mocking Kohli’s shoulder injury during the 2017 Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
Speaking on the Willow Talk Podcast, Maxwell recounted how he felt welcomed by Kohli when he joined the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) camp for the IPL in 2021.
During their training sessions, Maxwell tried to follow Kohli on social media but was unable to find him. It was only after someone mentioned that Kohli might have blocked him that he realized it was true. This stemmed from a moment in the third Test in Ranchi where Maxwell had made a light-hearted remark about Kohli’s injury
Maxwell approached Kohli and confirmed that he had indeed been blocked due to the incident. Kohli humorously acknowledged the reason, and they went on to become good friends after that.
Since joining RCB, Maxwell has made a significant impact, playing 52 matches and scoring 1,266 runs at an average of 28.77 and a strike rate of 159.25, including 12 fifties and a best score of 78. As IPL retention decisions are approaching, fans are eager to see if RCB will keep Maxwell for the upcoming season.
