November 10, 2024: Amid growing speculation about the future of Euphoria, HBO has officially reassured fans that the show is still on track for its highly anticipated third season.
The hit drama, which has become a cultural phenomenon since its debut in 2019, was renewed for Season 3 back in February 2022. However, production has been delayed due to the ongoing writers’ and actors’ strikes, leading to some rumors about the show’s future.
In a statement obtained by People magazine, an HBO representative clarified that Euphoria is indeed moving forward, confirming, “Euphoria is going into production in 2025. Nothing has changed.” This statement puts to rest any fears about a potential cancellation or indefinite hiatus, reassuring fans that the next season is still very much in the works.
The production delays have been primarily caused by the strikes in Hollywood, which affected script writing and filming schedules. Originally, Season 3 was slated to begin filming in the spring or summer of 2024, but those plans were pushed back due to the industry-wide disruptions. Despite the setbacks, HBO has reiterated its commitment to the series, with Francesca Orsi, EVP of HBO Programming, expressing her excitement in a statement earlier in the year. She said, “We could not be happier with our creative partnership with Sam Levinson and this incredible cast. We look forward to bringing this new season of ‘Euphoria’ to life for the fans.”
The second season of Euphoria, which aired in 2022, ended on a dramatic and emotional note, leaving several storylines unresolved. Zendaya’s character Rue Bennett was grappling with her addiction issues, and the show also faced major character departures, including the tragic death of fan-favorite character Fezco (played by the late Angus Cloud), whose passing in August 2023 left the Euphoria family in mourning. Additionally, Barbie Ferreira, who portrayed Kat Hernandez, confirmed her departure from the show on social media, raising questions about her character’s future.
Despite these challenges, key cast members like Zendaya, Jacob Elordi, Sydney Sweeney, Alexa Demie, and Hunter Schafer are expected to return for Season 3. Sydney Sweeney, who plays Cassie Howard, has already expressed her enthusiasm for revisiting her character, saying, “I’m very excited to jump back into her character. She is definitely one of the most special characters for me, and I love my ‘Euphoria’ family.”
Though Euphoria fans will have to wait a bit longer for the next season, they can still stream Seasons 1 and 2 on Max (or Jio Cinema in India) while they anticipate more updates. However, HBO has not yet revealed an official premiere date for Season 3. With production set to begin in 2025, it seems likely that the next season will premiere sometime after that, keeping viewers on the edge of their seats for what’s to come in the dramatic world of Rue, Jules, and the rest of the Euphoria characters.
