November 19, 2024: Akshay Kumar Addresses His Alleged Rs 145 Crore Paycheck and Actors’ Fees
Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar, often regarded as one of the highest-paid actors in India, opened up about his remuneration at the HT Leadership Summit 2024. Known for delivering blockbusters, the actor is reportedly drawing between Rs 60 crore and Rs 145 crore per film, as per Forbes. However, Akshay clarified the nature of his earnings, emphasising fairness in compensation.
No Upfront Fee, Profit Sharing Model
Addressing rumors about actors inflating film budgets, Akshay revealed:
“If we sign a film today, we don’t charge anything; we just take a stake. If it works, we get a share in the profit. If it doesn’t, we don’t get any money.”
The actor explained that this model ensures fairness and aligns the success of the film with the actor’s pay.
Ajay Devgn, who was part of the panel, echoed Akshay’s sentiment, saying:
“The actors charge according to scripts, films, and projects. Most of us are charging based on recoveries.”
The Risks and Passion Behind the Model
Akshay elaborated that actors often forego their fee entirely if the film underperforms:
“Sometimes, there is no share either. Then you have to let go of the price. That’s also passion.”
Rumors of Massive Paychecks
Earlier this year, it was reported that Akshay charged Rs 80 crore for Bade Miyan Chote Miyan, double the amount Tiger Shroff earned for the same film. While these figures sparked debates, Akshay’s recent comments shed light on the dynamics of actor fees in Bollywood.
A Packed 2024 for Akshay Kumar
The actor had an eventful year with four releases: Khel Khel Mein, Sarfira, Singham Again, and Bade Miyan Chote Miyan. Akshay is currently working on several big-budget films, including:
- Welcome 3
