December 1, 2024: Veteran Telugu actor Mohan Babu has been booked for allegedly assaulting a journalist at his residence in Jalpalli, Rangareddy district, on the evening of December 10, 2024. The incident occurred around 7:50 pm when the journalist, along with other media personnel, was covering a family dispute involving the actor and his son, actor Manchu Manoj.
According to the police FIR, the journalist lodged a formal complaint at 10:55 pm on the same day. The complaint was recorded by Sub-Inspector B. Dayakar Reddy at the Pahadishareef Police Station. The journalist, in his statement, recounted the events leading up to the alleged assault.
The media crew had arrived at Mohan Babu’s residence earlier that evening to cover the ongoing dispute. At 8:05 pm, Manchu Manoj reportedly invited the journalists inside to cover the escalating tensions between him and his father. However, during the coverage, Mohan Babu allegedly confronted the journalist in an aggressive manner.
The actor is accused of forcibly grabbing the reporter’s microphone and cell phone, using abusive language, and physically attacking the journalist with the microphone. The microphone reportedly contained a steel pipe and metal logo, which allegedly caused significant head injuries and bleeding to the journalist. The assault reportedly occurred without any provocation from the journalist.
Following the attack, the journalist was immediately rushed to Trident Hospital in Shamshabad for medical treatment. He received attention for his injuries, and in his statement, he requested that appropriate legal action be taken against Mohan Babu.
Based on the complaint, the police have registered a case and are investigating the matter. The investigation has been entrusted to Sub-Inspector V. Laxmaiah.
The incident has raised questions regarding the safety of journalists, especially when covering sensitive family disputes involving high-profile personalities. The police have yet to make an official statement from Mohan Babu’s side, and the investigation is ongoing.
