December 11, 2024: Former cricketer Harbhajan Singh recently shared his thoughts on India’s captain Rohit Sharma's current form, emphasizing the importance of the skipper scoring runs for both his individual performance and leadership.
Speaking exclusively to Star Sports, Harbhajan reflected on India’s tough 10-wicket loss to Australia in the second Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, where Rohit could only manage nine runs across two innings. This defeat, coupled with the earlier controversy surrounding Rohit's decision to bat under difficult conditions in the Bengaluru Test against New Zealand, has sparked discussions about his captaincy.
Harbhajan, known for his sharp cricketing acumen, explained that a captain’s form directly influences their decision-making. "As a captain, I would like Rohit Sharma to make runs. When he scores runs, he will think better and do better things," he said. Harbhajan added that all players, no matter how experienced, are constantly concerned about their form. He stressed that when a player is in good form, their decision-making improves, which in turn positively impacts the team’s performance.
He further hoped that Rohit would soon put some runs on the board, allowing his captaincy to flourish. "No matter how big a player is, he is always worried about his performance. There is no doubt that when a player scores runs, he makes better decisions," Harbhajan said.
With India facing a crucial series ahead, Harbhajan’s comments highlight the importance of Rohit Sharma returning to form, both for his own confidence and the team's success.
