At the trailer launch of his 3D children’s film Barroz in Mumbai, veteran actor Mohanlal shared his admiration for the groundbreaking success of Pushpa 2: The Rule. Hailing the film as a “gatecrasher” in the industry, Mohanlal praised its record-breaking box office numbers and its ability to push boundaries in pan-India cinema.

Pushpa 2 has set new standards,” Mohanlal said, adding, “The film industry’s wheel has to turn because of releases and successes. Every film deserves to run, not just Pushpa 2. A lot of big films are on their way, including my own, and I hope audiences respect and celebrate them.”

Reflecting on the power of cinematic innovation, he stated, “Such successes are like gatecrashes. They crash into the game, breaking barriers. Years ago, I did Kalapani, a pan-Indian film shot by Santosh Sivan, which won a National Award. We have the talent and resources to make world-class cinema, but someone needs to take that leap, as Pushpa 2 has done.”

Pushpa 2 Smashes Box Office Records

Starring Allu Arjun, Pushpa 2: The Rule has achieved phenomenal success, becoming the fastest Indian film to reach ₹1,000 crore globally, doing so in just six days. Within India, the film has raked in ₹645 crore across all languages.

Trade analyst Taran Adarsh revealed that the Hindi version alone has grossed an impressive ₹375 crore, underscoring the film’s pan-Indian appeal.

Mohanlal’s Barroz: A New Chapter in 3D Cinema

Meanwhile, Mohanlal’s upcoming project Barroz, shot in stunning 3D, is set to hit theaters soon. The children’s fantasy film, which began production in March 2021, was filmed in Kochi, Goa, Bangkok, Chennai, and other locations. The official trailer, released on November 19, has already generated significant buzz.


Pushpa 2’s unprecedented box office success and Mohanlal’s call for diverse, global-worthy cinema highlight the evolving landscape of Indian film, where boundaries between regional and national industries are dissolving, paving the way for world-class storytelling.
