Gukesh’s total earnings from the World Chess Championship stand at ₹11.34 crore (approximately $1.35 million). In India, with a 30% tax slab and an added surcharge, his tax liability is estimated at around ₹4.67 crore.
Breakdown of Prize Money:
The 2024 World Chess Championship had a total prize pool of $2.5 million. According to FIDE rules, the money is split based on wins:
- Gukesh won three games (Games 3, 11, and 14), earning him $600,000 (₹5.04 crore).
- Diren Ling won two games (Games 1 and 12), receiving $400,000 (₹3.36 crore).
- The remaining $1.5 million is divided equally, bringing Gukesh’s total to $1.35 million (₹11.34 crore) and Ling’s to $1.15 million (₹9.66 crore).
