Imran Khan Threatens to Halt Remittances if Demands Remain Unmet

PTI founder Imran Khan calls for judicial inquiry and release of arrested workers; cites economic struggles faced by Pakistanis.

Rawalpindi [Pakistan], December 18: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan has issued a warning, threatening to call for halting remittances to Pakistan if his demands are not addressed. His sister, Aleema Khan, conveyed his message to the media on Wednesday outside Adiala Jail, ARY News reported.

Imran Khan’s primary demands include the formation of a judicial commission comprising three Supreme Court judges to investigate incidents on May 9 and November 26, and the release of innocent PTI workers currently in custody.

Aleema Khan quoted the PTI leader, stating, “If these two demands are not met, I will soon call for stopping remittances to Pakistan.” She further highlighted the economic difficulties faced by ordinary Pakistanis, claiming that millions have fallen below the poverty line since Khan’s government was ousted.

Overseas Pakistanis and Economic Hardships

According to Aleema Khan, overseas Pakistanis, who work tirelessly abroad to send remittances back home, are frustrated by the current economic crisis. She alleged that Pakistan’s elite siphon dollars out of the country while poor laborers contribute to sustaining the economy.

Aleema also reiterated Imran Khan’s stance regarding a “London Plan”, which he believes aims to systematically suppress PTI. She claimed the plan includes stripping the party of its election symbol as part of a phased strategy.

Judicial Inquiry Demands

Imran Khan had earlier demanded a judicial inquiry into the violent events of May 9 and November 26. Speaking on behalf of Khan, Aleema stressed that substantial evidence, including video footage and hospital records, had surfaced, which cannot be ignored.

“Institutions and hospitals are providing undeniable evidence,” she said, emphasizing that the truth surrounding these events must come to light.

Aleema further announced that PTI leadership has named the D-Chowk area as “Shuhada Chowk”, in tribute to individuals affected by the political unrest.
