Haryana Declares State Holiday and Three-Day Mourning to Honor Former CM Om Prakash Chautala

State Pays Tribute to Veteran Leader with Flags at Half-Mast and Public Holiday Across Schools and Government Offices

Panchkula (Haryana), December 21: The Haryana government has declared a public holiday in all schools and state government offices on Saturday, following the demise of veteran leader and former Chief Minister Chaudhary Om Prakash Chautala.

In a notice issued by the Directorate of School Education, Government of Haryana, it was stated:

“The State has decided to observe three days of mourning from December 20 to 22 as a mark of respect to Chaudhary Om Prakash Chautala. The national flag will fly at half-mast on all government buildings, and all state functions will remain canceled.”

Final Rites and Public Tribute

The mortal remains of Om Prakash Chautala have been brought to Teja Khera, Sirsa, where the final rites will be held at 3 PM.

Aditya Chautala, nephew of the late leader, shared that Chautala’s remains would be kept from 8 AM to 2 PM for the public and party workers to pay their final respects.

Authorities, including the Sirsa Deputy Commissioner and Superintendent of Police, have been instructed to oversee all arrangements at the venue to ensure a smooth and respectful farewell.

State Mourning and Official Protocols

The three-day state mourning includes:

  • The national flag flown at half-mast across Haryana.
  • All state functions canceled during the mourning period.
  • No official entertainment activities permitted.

The state funeral will be accorded to Om Prakash Chautala at Teja Khera Farm, Sirsa.

Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini paid heartfelt tributes to the late leader, describing him as a “visionary figure in Haryana’s political history.”

“With his demise, a significant chapter in Haryana politics comes to an end. His contributions will always be remembered. Chautala Ji’s life symbolized simplicity and struggle, and his legacy will continue to inspire generations,” said Saini.
