December 23, 2024: Trump Promises Drastic Reforms on Day One of Presidency. In a fiery speech to young conservatives in Phoenix, Arizona, President-elect Donald Trump vowed to take immediate action on controversial issues, promising to “stop the transgender lunacy” on the first day of his second term. Speaking at the AmericaFest conference, Trump doubled down on his commitment to end gender-affirming care for minors, ban transgender individuals from serving in the military, and remove discussions about transgender topics from schools.
“It will be the official policy of the United States government that there are only two genders, male and female,” Trump declared to a cheering audience.
He also pledged to bar transgender women from participating in women’s sports, claiming that such measures would restore fairness and traditional values.

Tackling Cartels and Migrant Crime
In addition to his comments on gender policy, Trump laid out plans for combating crime and illegal immigration. He promised to designate drug cartels as foreign terrorist organizations and launch what he described as “the largest deportation operation in American history.”
“This criminal network operating on American soil will be dismantled, deported, and destroyed,” he said. Trump’s earlier attempt to label cartels as terrorist organizations in 2019 was halted after opposition from then-Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador.

Bold Promises on Global Affairs
Turning to foreign policy, Trump vowed to end the war in Ukraine, bring stability to the Middle East, and prevent World War III. However, he provided little detail on how these goals would be achieved.
In a controversial statement about the Panama Canal, Trump criticized Panamanian authorities, calling the canal fees “ridiculous.” He suggested that if the terms of the 1970s treaty granting Panama control of the canal are not upheld, the United States should reclaim it.
Reflecting on Biden’s Presidency
Trump painted a bleak picture of the Biden-Harris administration, describing it as a period of “failure, incompetence, and national decline.” He framed his upcoming presidency as the dawn of a “golden age of America,” promising to restore national greatness and prosperity.
Growing Tensions Over Transgender Rights
The president-elect’s remarks on transgender issues come amid escalating political battles over LGBTQ rights. States controlled by Democrats and Republicans have increasingly diverged on policies surrounding gender-affirming care and LGBTQ representation in schools. The issue has become a flashpoint in American politics, with both sides accusing the other of overreach.
As Trump prepares to take office in January, his sweeping promises signal a contentious start to his second term, with policies likely to intensify debates over civil rights, immigration, and foreign policy.
