Terror Links and Investigation:
Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav confirmed that the deceased were part of a Pakistan-sponsored Khalistan Zindabad Force module, actively involved in recent grenade attacks on police establishments in Punjab’s border regions.
“This terror module is involved in grenade attacks on police establishments in border areas of Punjab. The encounter took place in the jurisdiction of PS Puranpur, Pilibhit, between joint teams of Punjab and Uttar Pradesh police. Investigations are ongoing to uncover the entire network,” said DGP Yadav in a statement.
Recent Terror Incidents in Punjab:
Punjab witnessed a spate of attacks in the past week:
- A grenade attack at the Bangar police post in Gurdaspur
- An explosion at Islamabad police station in Amritsar
- A blast outside Bakshiwal police post in Gurdaspur
While there were no reported casualties, these incidents heightened tensions across the region. Unverified posts on social media claim responsibility was taken by the Khalistan Zindabad Force.
Local Support and Police Coordination:
Sources suggest the terrorists had traveled to Pilibhit, approximately 750 km from Gurdaspur, intending to seek refuge in the area, which has a significant Sikh population. However, local cooperation with police authorities played a key role in tracking them down.
Authorities’ Statements:
UP DGP Prashant Kumar praised the operation, calling it a “daredevil effort” and a “remarkable example of inter-state police coordination.”
Authorities are continuing investigations to trace further links of this terror module, with more arrests expected in the coming days.
