AB De Villiers on David Warner: “He has put up his hand for one of best all-round cricketers…”

The great South African batter AB De Villiers praised the great Australian batter David Warner after Warner retired from Test cricket, saying that Warner is a big fighter.

Warner and De Villiers shared a locker room when they were both playing for Delhi Daredevils in the Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2009–10. He told Warner how much he believed in him to become a cricket hero and how he always got back on track after things went wrong. I had played with David Warner when we were both with the Delhi Daredevils. He has put himself forward as one of the best all-around bowlers of all time. He was a great player from the start. Through a lot of trouble too, but they always found a way to come back. Many people have said nice things about De Villiers on his YouTube account.

The former right-handed batter liked that the left-handed batter was still willing to play in the 2025 Champions Trophy even though he had already retired from ODIs. Warner said he would be there for Australia if they needed him, which is the same thing De Villiers has said before. At the time, De Villiers made fun of the South African system for not picking him even though he had said he would be available for both the T20 World Cup and the 2019 ODI World Cup. “I’m so thankful to have played all kinds of sports for my country.” After that, I did the same thing David Warner did. Since I had kids back at home, I didn’t want to go on any more tours. At the time, I didn’t think it was cool to want to play in the T20 World Cup, but now everyone does. I wish I could have played for South Africa in another World Cup. The 39-year-old said, “I wish I could say like Warner that if you need me, I’m here.”
