Following the cross-voting by Congress MLAs in the Rajya Sabha polls in Himachal Pradesh, leading to the defeat of the party candidate, party MP Digvijay Singh said that action would be taken against the rebels at right time.
The cross-voting by six Congress MLAs–Sudhir Sharma, Rajinder Rana, Davinder K Bhutto, Ravi Thakur, Chaitanya Sharma and Inder Dutt Lakhanpal–led to a surprise win by the BJP’s candidate, Harsh Mahajan, in the Rajya Sabha from Himachal Pradesh.
The MLAs were later disqualified from the 68-member state assembly, after which the strength of the assembly came down to 62.
“Action will be taken against rebellions at right time,” Digvijay Singh said while speaking to reporters in Morena.
Meanwhile, on selection of candidates for the Lok Sabha polls, he added, “Our Central Election Committee (CEC) will decide on this. A meeting of the screening committee was held, now the matter will go in the hands of the CEC.”
Singh, earlier today, reached Morena to take stock of preparations of the party’s ‘Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra’, which is set to enter Madhra Pradesh through Morena district tomorrow.
The Congress’s ‘Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra’, after the party’s ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’, aims to cover 6,700 km through 15 states, with Lok Sabha polls around the corner.
The Lok Sabha polls are slated to be held in April-May this year.
