Alicia Silverstone Joins Star-Studded Cast Of Yorgos Lanthimos’ ‘Bugonia’

October 18, 2024: Alicia Silverstone has officially joined the cast of Yorgos Lanthimos’ upcoming sci-fi film Bugonia, alongside Emma Stone and Jesse Plemons.

Silverstone, widely recognized for her iconic role as Cher in Clueless, previously worked with Lanthimos in his acclaimed 2017 psychological thriller The Killing of a Sacred Deer.

Bugonia follows two conspiracy-obsessed young men who abduct a high-powered CEO, convinced she is an alien intent on destroying Earth. The screenplay is penned by Emmy winner Will Tracy and is inspired by the 2003 South Korean comedy Save the Green Planet. Details about Silverstone’s role in the film are being kept under wraps, adding to the intrigue surrounding her character.

Alicia Silverstone made her film debut in the 1993 thriller The Crush, which earned her the MTV Movie Award for Best Breakthrough Performance. Her portrayal of Cher in Clueless solidified her status as a teen icon. She also appeared as Batgirl in the 1997 superhero film Batman & Robin, and her early career included multiple films released in 1995, such as Le Nouveau Monde, Hideaway, and The Babysitter.

In recent years, Silverstone has continued to make her mark in film, appearing in the 2023 crime drama Reptile, co-starring Benicio del Toro and Justin Timberlake. She was also seen in 2024’s Y2K and the Netherlands-produced comedy horror Krazy House.
