November 25, 2024: Veteran actor Amitabh Bachchan has penned a heartfelt review of his son Abhishek Bachchan’s latest film, I Want To Talk, directed by Shoojit Sircar. While the movie has garnered critical acclaim for Abhishek’s stellar performance, it has struggled to gain similar traction at the box office. Big B, however, has nothing but admiration for the film and his son’s work, sharing his thoughts in an emotional and philosophical blog post.
Amitabh described I Want To Talk as a film that immerses its audience completely. He wrote, “Some films invite you to be entertained… some films invite you to BE the film. I Want To Talk just does that. It picks you up gently from your seat in the theatre and places you inside the screen. You don’t want to escape from it into escapism.” Praising Abhishek’s performance, he added, “Abhishek, you are not Abhishek. You are Arjun Sen of the film.”
Big B quoted lines from his father Harivanshrai Bachchan’s poetry to express his feelings about criticism and public perception:
“अच्छे ने अच्छा और, बुरे ने बुरा जाना मुझे,
जिसकी जितनी जरूरत थी, उसने उतना ही पहचाना मुझे !!”
Translating and elaborating, Amitabh explained: “Let them say what they say, but this is what I say. The good thought of me as good, and the bad thought of me as bad. It was their need to perceive me that way. It was not what I was; it was their understanding based on their needs. This truth is eternal—how others recognise you is shaped by their own greed or judgment, not by your reality.”
The legendary actor’s review was not just a reflection on the film but also an introspective commentary on life and criticism. He concluded his post with a philosophical note, emphasizing the subjective nature of perception: “Your need to think good or bad of me defines your recognition of me, not who I truly am.”
