Assam Flood Situation Worsens: Nearly 2 Lakh People Affected

The flood situation in Assam worsened on Thursday, affecting nearly 2 lakh people, including 36,000 children, across 9 districts of the state. According to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), a woman died in the Lala revenue circle area of Hailakandi district after drowning in floodwaters.

Cachar district alone has over 1.02 lakh affected people, while nearly 37,000 people are affected in Karimganj district, 22,354 in Nagaon district, 22,058 in Hojai district, and 14,308 in Hailakandi district.

A total of 386 villages under 22 revenue circles in the districts of Nagaon, Hojai, Cachar, Karimganj, Hailakandi, Golaghat, Karbi Anglong, West Karbi Anglong, and Dima Hasao have been impacted by the flood. The floodwaters have submerged 3238.8 hectares of crop area in these districts.

The administration has established 110 relief camps and distribution centres in the 9 flood-affected districts, providing shelter to 35,640 people. Additionally, more than 2.34 lakh domestic animals have been affected by the floods. The ASDMA report indicated that on Thursday, floodwaters damaged 13 roads and breached one embankment in Karimganj district.

The water level of the Kopili River at Kampur in Nagaon district is flowing above the danger level mark.
