At the Ekana Cricket Stadium on Friday, Lucknow Super Giants’ Ayush Badoni and Arshad Khan made a spectacular entry into the IPL records by setting the highest 8th-wicket partnership in the tournament’s 2024 edition. Faced with a precarious situation at 94/7 against the Delhi Capitals, the duo joined forces to salvage their team’s innings remarkably.
Together, Badoni and Khan crafted an unbroken stand of 73 runs, surpassing previous records for the 8th-wicket in the IPL. This achievement ranks as the second-highest for any wicket from the 8th down in the league’s history. The record is still held by Gujarat Titans’ Rashid Khan and Alzarri Joseph who put up 88* runs against Mumbai Indians at Wankhede Stadium in the previous season.

Following them, the pair of Brad Hodge and James Faulkner who registered a 69-run partnership for the Rajasthan Royals against Mumbai Indians in 2014 at Ahmedabad, and Heinrich Klaasen and Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s 68-run effort for Sunrisers Hyderabad against Gujarat Titans in 2023, round out the notable lower-order contributions.
During the partnership, Badoni was particularly aggressive, reaching his first IPL fifty in just 31 balls. He initially played cautiously against spinners Kuldeep Yadav and Axar Patel, then aggressively took on the pacers as the innings progressed. Arshad Khan complemented Badoni well, supporting with crucial runs and executing some impressive strokes that together, helped elevate their team’s total to a competitive level.
