The British Film and Television Association has fixed the date for next year’s film awards ceremony. Scheduled for Sunday, February 16, 2025, this news comes from The Hollywood Reporter.
Set just two weeks before the 2025 Oscars, planned for March 2, BAFTA’s decision places their event amidst the Berlin Film Festival. This festival runs from February 13 to February 23, meaning British industry figures might be rushing back from Berlin for the BAFTA weekend.
While the venue for the 2025 awards is yet to be confirmed, last year’s event occurred three weeks before the Oscars at London’s Royal Festival Hall. By keeping their date before the Oscars, BAFTA aims to uphold its reputation as a leading global celebration and a reliable indicator of Academy Award winners.
During the 77th BAFTA Awards, predictions closely matched the Oscars, foreseeing Oppenheimer’s success while also highlighting exclusions for films like The Killers of the Flower Moon and Barbie. The former missed out on both BAFTA and Oscar victories, while the latter secured only one Oscar for its original song “What Was I Made For?” by Billie Eilish and Finneas O’Connell.
Approximately 7,800 industry professionals, part of the British Film and Television Association, participate in BAFTA’s three-round voting process, nominating films for the longlist, then selecting nominees and finally deciding the winners. BAFTA is expected to unveil the complete timeline and eligibility criteria for the 78th BAFTA Awards soon, as per The Hollywood Reporter.
