November 23, 2024: The box office is buzzing with competition as recently released films from Bollywood and South Indian cinema battle for audience attention. From Abhishek Bachchan’s I Want to Talk to Suriya’s Kanguva, here’s a closer look at how these films are performing, along with updates on Singham Again, Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3, and others.
Shoojit Sircar’s I Want to Talk, starring Abhishek Bachchan, opened in theaters on November 22 but failed to create a strong impact. With mixed reviews from audiences and critics, the film earned just ₹25 lakh on its opening day. The Hindi occupancy rate was 7.44%, with Chennai reporting the highest turnout at 28%.
Payal Kapadia’s critically acclaimed film All We Imagine As Light also hit cinemas on November 22. Despite its prestigious Cannes Grand Prix award, the film had a poor opening day. Starring Kani Kusruti, Divya Prabha, and Chhaya Kadam, it has struggled to attract mainstream audiences.
Inspired by the 2002 Godhra train fire incident, Vikrant Massey and Raashi Khanna’s The Sabarmati Report was made tax-free in several states, including Uttar Pradesh and Gujarat. However, this hasn’t translated into significant box office earnings. On its eighth day, the film earned ₹68 lakh, bringing its total to ₹12.18 crore—a disappointing figure given its subject matter and the tax exemptions.
Shivakarthikeyan and Sai Pallavi’s Amaran continues to dominate the box office, nearing the ₹200 crore club. Over 23 days, the film has amassed ₹199.38 crore in India across all languages. With consistent collections, Amaran stands out as one of the year’s biggest successes.
Suriya’s Kanguva, directed by Shiva, has turned out to be one of 2024’s biggest flops. Despite its grand scale and ₹350-400 crore budget, the film has only managed to collect ₹64.91 crore in nine days. On the ninth day, it added just ₹61 lakh, cementing its place as a major disappointment.
Rohit Shetty’s star-studded Singham Again, featuring Ajay Devgn, Deepika Padukone, and Ranveer Singh, is struggling to recover its ₹350 crore budget. On its 22nd day, the cop drama earned ₹74 lakh, bringing its total collection to ₹236.89 crore. Despite the buzz around its ensemble cast, the film has underperformed.
Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3, starring Kartik Aaryan, Vidya Balan, Madhuri Dixit, and Tripti Dimri, has proven to be a box office hit. The horror-comedy, directed by Anees Bazmee, has already recovered its budget and is moving toward the ₹250 crore club. On its 22nd day, the film earned ₹1.22 crore, bringing its total to ₹240.82 crore.
