Paris Olympics silver medalist Neeraj Chopra narrowly missed out on another title, finishing second in the 2024 Diamond League final with a best throw of 87.86 meters, just 1 centimeter short of the winning throw by Grenada’s Anderson Peters, who secured his first Diamond League title with 87.87 meters. The event was held at the King Baudouin Stadium in Brussels.
Chopra, who became the first Indian to win a Diamond League Trophy in 2022, was off to a strong start with an 86.82-meter throw, but despite consistent efforts, he couldn’t surpass Peters’ early lead. Germany’s Julian Weber, the 2023 European Games champion, finished third with a throw of 85.97 meters.
This marked Chopra’s fifth appearance in a Diamond League final, where he has had a steady climb, including his 2022 win. Neeraj qualified for the 2024 final with 14 points after strong performances in the Doha and Lausanne legs.
Despite battling a groin injury throughout the season, Chopra managed solid throws, including a national record of 89.94 meters set in Stockholm last year and a second-best of 89.49 meters at Lausanne.
