Air India Becomes First Indian Airline to Offer In-Flight Wi-Fi on Domestic and International Flights

Passengers can now stay connected mid-air on Airbus A350, Boeing 787-9, and select A321neo aircraft with complimentary Wi-Fi services.

New Delhi, January 1: Air India has become the first Indian airline to introduce in-flight Wi-Fi internet connectivity on both domestic and international flights operated by its Airbus A350, Boeing 787-9, and select Airbus A321neo aircraft. The new service, rolled out on January 1, 2025, aims to enhance passenger experience by enabling them to stay connected while flying.

Passengers can now browse the web, access social media, send messages, and catch up on work using their Wi-Fi-enabled laptops, tablets, and smartphones with iOS or Android operating systems when flying above 10,000 feet.

Rajesh Dogra, Chief Customer Experience Officer at Air India, highlighted the significance of this initiative: “Connectivity is now an integral part of modern travel. For some, it is about the convenience and comfort of real-time sharing, while for others, it is about greater productivity and efficiency. Whatever one’s purpose, we are confident that our guests will appreciate having the option of connecting to the web and enjoy the new Air India experience on board these aircraft.”

Availability and Expansion Plan

Currently, the Wi-Fi service is complimentary for an introductory period and is available on select domestic routes and international destinations, including New York, London, Paris, and Singapore. Air India plans to gradually expand Wi-Fi connectivity across its entire fleet.

Air India’s Fleet Expansion

In December 2024, Air India placed an order for 100 additional Airbus aircraft, including 10 widebody A350s and 90 narrowbody A320 Family aircraft, further strengthening its fleet. This order comes in addition to the 470 aircraft deal signed last year with Airbus and Boeing.

Air India has also partnered with Airbus’ Flight Hour Services-Component (FHS-C) for the maintenance of its growing A350 fleet.

With this move, Air India aims to set a new benchmark in passenger experience, offering seamless connectivity and convenience on both domestic and international flights.
