Apple iPhone 17 Series Rumored to Feature High-Refresh-Rate Displays Across All Models

Apple plans to standardize ProMotion technology across iPhone 17 lineup, introducing smoother displays, enhanced cameras, and in-house wireless chips.

Washington [US], January 1: Apple is reportedly planning to introduce high-refresh-rate OLED displays across its entire iPhone 17 lineup, a feature previously reserved for the Pro models, according to a report by MacRumors.

ProMotion for All iPhone 17 Models

Currently, high-refresh-rate ProMotion displays—powered by LTPO (Low-Temperature Polycrystalline Oxide) technology—are exclusive to iPhone Pro models. These displays enable variable refresh rates up to 120Hz, offering smoother scrolling, better animations, and improved power efficiency.

The new report suggests that Apple plans to standardize this technology across all iPhone 17 variants, ensuring a more uniform premium experience for every user.

iPhone 17 Slim to Replace iPhone 17 Plus

Another significant change could be the replacement of the “Plus” model with a new “Slim” version in 2025. This variant is also rumored to feature ProMotion technology, further solidifying Apple’s shift toward display uniformity across its lineup.

Hardware Enhancements Across the Lineup

Apart from the display upgrades, the iPhone 17 series might also feature notable hardware improvements:

  • 12GB RAM in Pro and Pro Max models, while the standard and Slim variants may come with 8GB RAM.
  • Smaller Face ID sensor and Dynamic Island cutout in the iPhone 17 Pro Max.
  • Camera Upgrades: A 24MP front-facing camera across all models, a major leap from the current 12MP sensors.

In-House Wireless Chipset

Apple is also expected to introduce its in-house designed Wi-Fi and Bluetooth chip in the iPhone 17 series, which could enhance wireless performance and power efficiency.

A New Chapter for iPhone Innovation

The iPhone 17 lineup is shaping up to represent a strategic shift for Apple, with previously Pro-exclusive features like ProMotion displays becoming standard across the range. Combined with camera enhancements, chipset upgrades, and improved RAM configurations, the iPhone 17 series is expected to elevate the user experience across all models.

While these updates remain speculative, they align with Apple’s trend of gradually democratizing high-end features for a broader audience.

The iPhone 17 series could mark a significant milestone in Apple’s flagship smartphone strategy, setting a new standard for display technology, performance, and connectivity.
