Apple to Manufacture All iPhone 17 Models In India For The First Time
For the first time ever, Apple will reportedly produce all four iPhone 17 models, including the Pro variants, in India.
August 20, 2025: Apple is making a lot more iPhones in India than before. For the first time, all four new iPhone 17 models, including the Pro models, will be built in India. The devices will be shipped to the U.S. from India the same day they come out. This choice is part of Apple’s ongoing effort to rely less on China and deal with rising geopolitical tensions and tariff uncertainty.
A Change in the Making
The expansion includes five factories in India, two of which have just started making things. These include the Tata Group’s factory in Hosur, Tamil Nadu, and Foxconn Technology Group’s production hub near the Bangalore airport. The Tata Group is now a major partner in Apple’s supply chain, which is a substantial move. Reports claim that Tata-controlled factories could make over half of India’s iPhones in the next two years.
The tight COVID-19 lockdowns in China were the first reason for this change in policy, but it has subsequently become stronger because of the need to defend against an unpredictable global trading environment. The company hopes to meet most of the demand for iPhones in the U.S. by shipping them directly from India.
India’s exports are on the rise 📈
Exports have already gone up a lot because of the ramp-up. In the first half of 2025, India’s iPhone exports went by 53% over the previous year, reaching 23.9 million iPhones. Sending iPhones to the United States is now the most critical thing to do. It got 78% of the iPhones sent from India during that time, up from 53% the year before. This move has harmed other significant markets, such the UK, the UAE, and the Netherlands, whose stocks have dropped.
