Apple’s Q2 Shipments May Jump 20% Despite Sluggish Market
June 18, 2025: Apple India– American device maker Apple is expected to ship around 2.8 million iPhones in India during the second quarter of 2025, marking a year-on-year growth of approximately 20%, according to industry estimates. This comes even as the Indian smartphone market faces seasonal weakness and extreme heat waves in several states.
Citing International Data Corporation (IDC) data, a media report stated that India’s overall smartphone shipments may decline by 3-4% in Q2, with total shipments estimated at 33–34 million units. The decline is primarily attributed to seasonal downturns and extreme weather conditions affecting consumer behavior. However, Apple is likely to defy the trend with a strong performance driven by promotional offers and financing options.
The increased sales of iPhones are being supported by discounts and easy EMI schemes, making the premium devices more accessible. The company’s presence has also strengthened since it opened two flagship retail stores in India—one each in Delhi and Mumbai—about two years ago.
Apple CEO Tim Cook had announced earlier this year that the company plans to open four new stores in India. Two of the upcoming stores are likely to be located in Sky City Mall, Borivali (Mumbai) and Phoenix Mall of Asia (Bengaluru). Media reports also suggested ongoing hiring for these new locations.
Further store expansions are expected in Noida (DLF Mall of India) and Pune (Kopa Mall), indicating the tech giant’s deeper push into the Indian retail landscape.
In Q1 2025, Apple topped global smartphone sales, driven by high demand in India and Japan, along with the success of the iPhone 16e. Last fiscal year, Apple accounted for ₹1.5 lakh crore (~$18 billion) in smartphone exports from India.
India has emerged as a key manufacturing hub for iPhones, with domestic production increasing rapidly over the past few years.
