Minutes later, the aircraft issued a Mayday call and then disappeared from radar, crashing in a residential zone near Meghnaninagar.

A Boeing spokesperson acknowledged the development, saying:
“We are aware of initial reports and are working to gather more information.”
The Boeing 787 Dreamliner, introduced globally in the early 2010s, has a strong safety record, with no fatal commercial crashes prior to this. The fleet was briefly grounded years ago over battery issues, but no injuries had resulted from those events.

While the investigation is ongoing, the stock market has reacted swiftly, indicating investor nervousness over potential implications for Boeing’s reputation, liabilities, or fleet operations globally.
This marks a major incident for Boeing’s 787 series, one of its most technologically advanced aircraft, and comes amid Boeing’s attempt to recover from previous production issues and delivery delays.
Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu, speaking from Ahmedabad, said:
“We are on the highest alert… Rescue teams have been mobilised… My thoughts and prayers are with all those on board and their families.”
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) confirmed the plane stopped responding after issuing the Mayday signal.
