“China Will Not Sit Back”: Beijing Slams Trump’s 125% Tariff Hike, Vows to Fight Back

Beijing warns of serious global consequences after US raises tariffs to 125%, urging Washington to return to the table — or brace for a prolonged trade war.

Beijing, April 10, 2025 — A day after US President Donald Trump imposed a 125% tariff on Chinese goods, China has fired back, warning that it will not “sit back” and let its “legitimate rights and interests” be harmed.

“The US cause doesn’t win the support of the people and will end in failure,” said Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Lin Jian during a press conference. He added that Trump’s tariffs defy global norms and would “seriously damage the rules-based multilateral trading system.”

🛑 China Draws the Line In a firm message, Lin said the move goes against the whole world and signals economic aggression.

The Commerce Ministry’s spokesperson He Yongqian reinforced this, urging the United States to meet China “halfway” while warning that if a compromise isn’t reached, China is prepared to “fight to the end.”

“The door to dialogue is open, but it must be based on mutual respect and conducted in an equal manner,” He stated.

🔥 Backdrop of a Global Flashpoint Trump’s aggressive tariff hike came alongside a 90-day pause on tariffs for 75 other countries, which he said responded with dialogue instead of retaliation. China, he insisted, had shown “a lack of respect” for world markets, prompting the dramatic escalation.

“At some point, hopefully in the near future, China will realize that the days of ripping off the U.S.A. and other countries is no longer sustainable or acceptable,” Trump posted on Truth Social.

🌍 Trade War Watch As the US-China trade war continues to escalate, all eyes are on Beijing’s next move — retaliatory tariffs, WTO action, or renewed talks. For now, China has made it clear: it won’t stand down quietly.

The world’s two largest economies remain on a collision course, and the global markets are bracing for impact.
